I’m always up for checking out the latest food trends in DC, and luckily as WFW gains recognition, more people are seeking me out to tell me about new cool spots they know about! Yesterday I visited Glen’s Garden Market in Dupont with a new friend to check it out.
Here’s the concept: it’s a grocery store/coffee shop/bar that sells local produce and products. In a way, it’s the result of frustration with DC politics – when environmental legislation that store owner Danielle Vogel was working on didn’t pass, she decided to stop relying on American politics to get things done and did what a good old-fashioned American would do: started a business to encourage the public to make better choices without waiting for laws to catch up. Read her whole story (check out here too!), and stop by for a visit if you’re in the area – my pictorial synopsis is below!
their prepared foods section is gorgeous, and inspiring! They’re going to develop a catering menu, so local businesses pay attention – there will be a more interesting world beyond Cosi sandwiches for meetings!
Speaking of inspiring, this Cajun egg salad made me want to try that twist! Egg salad is easy and fast – great on a sandwich or bed of kale, as I did for dinner:
- 6 hard boiled eggs (great recipe here if you need it!)
- 1/3 c plain greek yogurt
- 1 Tbsp rice or white wine vinegar
- 1/4 tsp each of the following: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper
- Dash of cayenne pepper and turmeric for color
Chop eggs and place in a bowl. Add all other ingredients and mix with a fork until evenly blended. Serve cold.
